Location: M74, M73, M8 Glasgow
Client: Ferrovial Lagan JV
Duration: 10 months
To safely co-ordinate, dismantle and clear 31 road sign gantries crossing the M73, M74 and M8 as part of the motorway improvement works.
The structures varied in size spanning from 14 meters to 28 metres and weighing between 17 tonnes and 120 tonnes.
Each structure had to be dismantled, removed off site, with the carriageway reopened to traffic within a 6 hour period during the night to support Transport Scotland.
Our project was resourced and controlled from our Head Office in Falkirk, deploying to site, a Site Manager, Appointed Person, Lift Supervisors, Slingers, Height Burners, Crane Drivers, Plant Operatives and various HGV Drivers.
Each gantry had its own full site survey and approved RAMS. Specialist lifting equipment was manufactured and tested to perform specific site lifts. Extending trailers were deployed to remove exceptionally long sections which weighed up to 60 tonnes.
Services Provided:
GCM maintained the same operational team on the project throughout and carried out up to three gantry removals in one night.
The project was completed on programme, within budget, without incident or injury and to the satisfaction of the HSE, Environment Agency and our client. Ferrovial Laggan JV personally thanked GCM for our assistance on an extremely complex project.
