Removal of number 84 Redundant Furnace structure and production line at OI GLASSWORKS ALLOA

Location:  OI Glassworks, Alloa

Project Scope

 GCM Services were appointed as principal contractor to remove the redundant furnace structure and all plant and equipment associated with the number 84 glass bottle production line.


Our Solution

The redundant line was located adjacent to the clients existing live furnace 82 and bottling plant which had to remain in production 24 hours per day.In addition the existing control room and all existing services associated with the remaining plants were located within the work area.All existing live services had to be clearly identified and structural protection measures designed and installed ahead of the dismantling works commencing.The project required the following Dismantling techniques to be utilised: oxy-propane hot cutting, piecemeal dismantling, dismantling by crane, mechanical steel cutting shears, high reach demolition, working from fixed scaffolding, mini excavator, hand tools, skid steer loaders and hydraulic demolition excavators.

Outcome

Phase 1 was successfully completed in 10 months and GCM have negotiated phase 2 of the works for a further 6 months.
