Tank 12 is a 44m diameter oil storage tank located within a live tank farm, the tank is 9.9 metres tall. The metal weight arising from this tank is 360 tonnes. GCM challenge was to demolish and remove the tank operating from the confines of the tank 12 bund area with no disruption to the tank farm day to day operations.

Our project was resourced and controlled from our head office in Falkirk, deploying to site a full time site manager and GCM operatives. Solution was to open the tank with a demolition excavator fitted with a hydraulic shear and dedicated steel plate cutting jaws. Our design of demolition was followed by our team to maintain the structural integrity of the remaining structure throughout the demolition.

The project was completed on programme, within budget, without incident or injury and to the satisfaction of the HSE, Environment Agency and our client.
