To safely demolish the condemned road bridge over a live services and hydrocarbon pipe gantry. Construction of the bridge formed precast concrete units to the south side with a 13 metre steel frame span incorporating steel shutters with a poured concrete decking and tarmacadam finish to the north side. Our challenge was to protect and maintain the live services at either side and below the bridge during the destruct works.
Our project was resourced and controlled from our Satellite Office in Grangemouth, deploying to site a full time site manager, site supervisor, demolition operatives and machine operatives. The solution was to form a barrier 1.5 metres from either side of the bridge using sand bags. Using a “Dysab” vacuum tanker, 10mm pea gravel was blown into the void under the bridge locking together the pipework and providing a level decking where a double crossed layer of 20mm plywood was laid directly under the bridge deck which enabled our systematic dismantling to progress.
